Meeting with Belbin, the father of modern Team-Role theory

Sabre's MD, Talan Miller meets with Belbin!

Having been great advocates of the Belbin Team-Role model for many years it was quite a thrill to meet the man himself. The very British, and quite beautiful, setting of Cambridge also added a great deal of atmosphere to the meeting.

Dr Meredith Belbin is universally regarded as the father of modern Team-Role theory for his extensive research and work in the field of management team roles and their impact upon the success of teams in the corporate world. The product of his insightful and immensely useful research is of course the Belbin Team-Role Model that is now used throughout the world to select, build and develop powerful teams.

As expected, the man himself is truly a wealth of knowledge and experience on the impact of teams in the corporate world and the best methods for managing and building these teams. His work has now spanned a considerable number of satisfied clients, best selling books, computer systems and HRD initiatives that have grown from his famous model.

He speaks with great enthusiasm and insight about not only his now famous Team - Role model, but also of his more recent work on the nature of functional roles at work and the forthcoming hypothesis on the nature of power in human civilisations. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting both Dr Belbin and his son Nigel who works closely with him. The continuing work of both Sabre and our corporate psychologist Dr Marriott with the Model and our clients was of great interest to the Belbin team.

Our corporate psychologist Dr David Marriott (a close associate of Belbin) is shortly to make another visit to the Belbin headquarters for first hand updates on the work of this innovative man and his international associates.

Sabre is proud to be able to offer the Belbin Model to our clients and will be delighted to provide more information to anyone who is interested in finding out more about the model, how we use it, and how it can make a huge difference to your organisation.
