Hawaiian 'Survivor' on the Big Island!
In the midst of exotic black sand beaches, volcanoes, lava flows and the 5 Star luxury of the Orchid Mauna Lani resort at Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii; the Survivor challenge was launched for 200 top performers from the Candle Corporation.
The program was designed to provide an enjoyable and memorable insight into the power of the team and the paradox between the need for competitive spirit and internal or cross - functional co-operation. Participants were top performers from Candle's global family that includes USA, Europe and Asia so the event also had to be "global' in its orientation. The selection of the "Survivor" theme not only mirrored the style of the reality TV genre, but also was used to dovetail into prevailing corporate themes and issues.
Teams (or on this occasion, Tribes) needed to undertake a variety of carefully developed challenges to gain skills and resources in major challenge categories of "Tribal Strength and Unity", "Tribal Identity" and "Tribal Song and Dance". Deals and alliances progressively formed and built towards a spectacular "Tribal Council" that eventually allowed all teams to vote for the best overall tribe based upon not only task and process related points, but the quality of the relationships that had been built upon with other tribes.
This was a great event with a great team. We were honoured to have been selected over many other providers to work with the group by both the client themselves and one of the best Performance Improvement companies in the world, The Madison Performance Group of New York and Los Angeles (the project and incentive manager).
Many clients now choose amazing destinations for these events, but Hawaii stands out as one of the nicest exotic locations that we've worked in with our clients (others include The Bahamas, Fiji, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore). Naturally the location and the resort was pretty hard to take, and if any other clients want us to go back to Hawaii and work for them, we think we might just be able to accommodate them!
