Management and Teams
Management and Team Development programs that blend the best of both worlds for enjoyment and results are a hit, but what exactly do you want to do?
The market for management and team development programs that include an outdoor or interactive element is now wider than ever before. The needs of each client are naturally quite different with a broad spectrum that covers many different styles of approach.
There can be a fun end of the spectrum and a serious developmental end. It is critical to know exactly where the client group wishes to sit on this spectrum.
Conference and Incentive based team events are naturally quite different from the highly targeted development oriented programs. Variety and flexibility is therefore a must for cutting edge providers.
For some the MOD (Management Out-doors) formula is seen as a stereotypical Panacea to cure all ills. To make matters worse many "Bandwagon riders" have appeared among providers. An abseiler or outdoor enthusiast does not neccessarily a corporate team facilitator make!
Diluted 'outdoorsy' adventure courses, ropes and rafting are not neccessarily everybody's cup of tea (valid though they may be for some specific briefs).
It is critical to differentiate between the many types of program available and the actual client needs to which they should be matched.
With this in mind it is fair to say that the rugged 'Outdoorsy' style program should sit a world apart from the themed team event that motivates a sales force at an annual conference. Unfortunately some fail to make this observation when developing events and programs.
Informed clients will demand programs that are carefully tailored with the accent heavily on achievement. The program itself should be carefully structured for the client's specific needs.
The structure is the scaffolding which allows the organisers and delegates to build towards their desired result.
Some outdoor programs which lack careful structuring and execution can deteriorate into a series of meaningless games. In consultation with the client it is important that the right balance is struck between activity and review.
Team-building events can be used simply as enjoyable and memorable conference additions, or serve as powerful learning and development tools for department heads and companies. The approach used to actually go about achieving either (or in some cases both) should be as unique as the client company itself.
The development and execution of programs must therefore be tailored accordingly to how these objectives are assessed (and if need be realistically reconciled with the actual time and resources available to the client).
At Sabre we pride ourselves on developing programs that meet the needs of the client whether they are seeking conference based fun or critical development.
