As weather patterns become increasingly unpredictable, the demand for ‘weather-proof’ meeting and event solutions is surging, so too is demand for indoor team building.
While we always have wet-weather contingency plans in place, recent extreme weather events and sudden shifts make outdoor activities more susceptible to disruption. If your audience is happy to embrace a bit of rain and fresh air, that’s great—but for many conference-based experiences, delegate comfort takes priority.
Fortunately, we offer a wide range of engaging indoor options. From sophisticated business games like Battlespace and When in Rome to high-energy, offbeat formats like Fashion Fiasco and Diamonds R 4 Ever, or team painting with Picture Perfect, there is something for every team. We also provide high-end Belbin workshops designed to deliver lasting value.
When we first kicked off in 1988 it was quite the opposite. Teams were desperate to get out of the meetings rooms and had far higher resilience to bad weather, in fact often found it helped with the team bonding dynamic. Whilst the ex-military folks in the Sabre team would agree that some exposure to elements isn’t a bad thing at all, the reality is that times have changed, as have OHS requirements.
Perhaps in time demand for the more hardcore outdoor team building formats will return? The indoor formats are often more sophisticated, and usually dovetail better into matching business needs, the outdoor formats have more impact in other ways as people get outside and hot, cold or muddy together.
Of course, for those who thrive in rain, hail, or shine, we still have plenty of exciting outdoor options available! It just pays for event planners to be realistic about the impacts that weather and then last-minute changes may have on the meeting spaces they have booked or not, and their agenda.
