AI and Teamwork survey and paper by Belbin.

AI and Teamwork: Belbin recently carried out an international study exploring how artificial intelligence is being used across HR, Learning and Development, and Organisational Development, and what this growing adoption means for teamwork.

The aim was to gain a clearer picture of how AI is already influencing teamwork and how attitudes are changing as these technologies become embedded in everyday working life. The research gathered insights from 250 senior HR, L&D and OD professionals worldwide.

AI is no longer something confined to future predictions. It is already changing how teams communicate, make decisions and complete their work. As organisations introduce new platforms and test AI-supported ways of operating, teams are entering a period that brings considerable potential, but also new questions and uncertainties.

Some activities can now be completed more quickly, repetitive tasks may be automated, and traditional responsibilities may begin to change. This can create uncertainty around roles and accountability. Who is responsible for each contribution? How should work be divided? And what does effective teamwork look like when AI becomes part of the working process?

Belbin provides a practical, human-centred framework to help teams understand the strengths and behavioural contributions of their people during this period of change. By making team dynamics more visible, Belbin creates a strong foundation for meaningful discussion, clearer alignment and greater resilience as workplace technology continues to evolve.
