Team Building for Schools by Sabre

For over three decades, Sabre has been proud to deliver high-quality, tailored team building experiences for schools across Australia.

Our passion lies in helping both students and staff to uncover and develop their unique team talents through world-class approaches and expert facilitation.

All too often, school-based team building is limited to outdated string-and-bucket games or the familiar raft-building type camp activities. While these can be enjoyable, they rarely reflect the real dynamics of modern teamwork. At Sabre, we bring the same sophisticated methods used by major corporate clients into the school environment—tailored to suit the age group and educational setting.

One example is our Picture Perfect challenge, a creative cross-functional painting activity designed to mirror real-world team dynamics. In this task, small groups must collaborate under time pressure, initially working in isolation on individual canvasses.

As the challenge progresses, they discover the power of collaboration, communication, and information sharing to bring all their pieces together into a unified masterpiece. It’s not just a visual ‘wow factor’ at the end of the session, but a powerful metaphor for what can be achieved when diverse individuals work in harmony together for a common goal.

Recently, a brilliant cohort of Year 11 students at a Queensland school tackled this challenge with energy and skill. Each House group worked against the clock to produce a unique team artwork representing their School Houses — demonstrating excellent teamwork, mutual respect, and effective communication under pressure.

Where time permits, we take it a step further by incorporating the internationally renowned Belbin Team Role Model, using Belbin’s GetSet reports for students. These reports offer tailored insights into each student’s behavioural strengths in teams, encouraging self-awareness and confidence in their individual contributions.

Introducing students to advanced team development tools and activities at an early stage sets them up for long-term success. As they transition into university or the workplace—where collaboration is essential—these experiences provide a strong foundation for thriving in diverse and dynamic team environments.
