Team Building with Belbin
What are the Belbin Team Roles?
Belbin Team Roles are used worldwide to identify people's behavioural strengths and weaknesses in the workplace. This information can be used to:
Build productive working relationships
Develop high-performing teams and leaders
Raise self-awareness and personal effectiveness
Build mutual trust and understanding
Aid recruitment and selection processes
Drive employee engagement and business performance
Create better and more effectively targeted team building activities
There are 9 Team Roles, but this doesn't mean that you need nine individuals, each with one strong Team Role in each team. Each of us can play two or three Team Roles well, and should learn to adapt our behaviour to the needs of the of team's objectives.
What are Belbin Reports?
The first step for making use of the Belbin Model is the “Individual Report”. Once these are completed there are many other useful reports that can be generated.
INDIVIDUAL BELBIN REPORT
THE SELF PERCEPTION INVENTORY (SPI)
This is an online questionnaire. Responses are analysed via our expert Belbin program. The generated report is fully normed and contains highly insightful, pragmatic and personalised advice.
ADDING 360-Degree OBSERVER FEEDBACK
Observer Assessments are Belbin's method for obtaining 360-degree feedback from managers, colleagues and those who are managed by the individual (where applicable) and asking them to complete a short assessment.
A person’s Belbin profile can be generated from their SPI alone, or by adding the Observers to give far more comprehensive feedback.
BELBIN TEAM / GROUP REPORT
Reports on the dynamics of a Team (3 – 15 people) or a Group (over 15 people). This is a powerful way to explore the strengths, weaknesses and culture of a team or group.
This data allows programme designeres to create far more efefctive team building activities and approaches for teams and leaders.
WORKING RELATIONSHIP REPORT: An insightful report on the working relationship dynamics between any two people based upon their Team Role profiles.
JOB AND JOB COMPARISON REPORTS: A report that captures the behavioural requirements that are ideal for a job, and the ability to then clearly compare eligible candidates to those requirements.
GETSET FOR YOUNG PEOPLE: The version of Belbin designed especially for students and graduates new to the workplace, teams and leadership to help them develop their capabilities.
